Overflatisk årebetennelse - tromboflebitt

Tromboflebitt er en årebetennelse i en overflatisk vene - de blodårene som fører blodet tilbake til hjertet. I en avgrenset lengde av blodåren er åreveggen betent og inne i blodåren dannes en blodpropp (trombe).

Åreknuter er en meget hyppig årsak til overflatisk årebetennelse. I studier er det vist at hos 4-59 prosent av pasienter med åreknuter vil det utvikles overflatisk årebetennelse, og cirka 70 prosent av alle pasienter med overflatisk årebetennelse har åreknuter.
