Åreknuter i spiserøret, øsofagusvaricer

Ved økt trykk i venene i veggen på spiserøret kan de utvides til åreknuter. Dersom en åreknute brister, kan det oppstå livstruende blødning. Illustrasjonen viser et normalt spiserør som leder til magesekken, med leveren liggende foran.

Øsofagusvaricer er utvidete vener, eller åreknuter, som først og fremst kan påvises i de nedre 5 cm av spiserøret (øsofagus).
